One Direction shun alcohol for tea on tour

One Direction have shunned alcohol on their current 'Take Me Home' tour in favour of tea.

The five piece - comprising Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne - requested that the hot beverage be included on their backstage rider.

Organic tea company Higher Living have provided the band with an endless supply of specially-brewed peppermint teabags, and created a ‘break in case of emergency’ box if the group run out.

A spokesman for Higher Living told the Manchester Evening News: “Many professional singers drink tea before gigs to warm-up and repair vocal chords plus peppermint’s menthol qualities also help clear the airways. The lads are so committed to their fans that they don’t want anything to spoil the show and won’t leave anything to chance.

The rep added: “We hope the emergency tea kits will give them peace of mind to perform their best set yet.”

One Direction performed to a sell-out crowd in the Northern city in the UK last night, and are returning to the Manchester Arena again tonight.

Last night (March 15) Horan took to Twitter to gush: "Manchester! great gig! Great homecoming for @harry_styles ! Im off t sleep! Not feeling very well! Night night! Love you all (sic)."
