Liam Payne thanks fans for "amazing" homecoming

Liam Payne has thanked One Direction's Birmingham fans for the "amazing" homecoming.

The boyband heartthrob is originally from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, and last night the five-piece took their world tour to Birmingham - a short distance from Payne's home town.

Taking to Twitter after the show Payne thanked fans for their welcoming support.

He gushed: "Tonight has been amazing! Ill never forget it! Thank you birmingham , its sooooo good to be home :) (sic)."

A number of One Direction fans recently bombarded Payne's family home after a radio competition went wrong.

A West Midlands-based radio station broadcast clues to find two tickets to a One Direction concert leading around 100 listeners to misinterpret the hints.

Around one hundred enthusiastic Directioners flocked to Payne's home garden after a clue revealed they were "close to somewhere beautiful" and possibly in an ancient burial site.

The 'Kiss You' star's father Geoff said: "I'm much better now that the competition is over. I've had people loitering around the house for days on end now. I'm glad someone won it. There have been people hiding round corners looking for them."

The pair of tickets were eventually found on the back of a road sign.
