One Direction to release "edgy" third album before Christmas

One Direction have confirmed plans to unleash a new album by the end of the year.

The boyband only released their previous record 'Take Me Home' in November last year but plans are already afoot to follow it up.

Speaking at a press conference to launch their 2014 Where We Are world stadium tour, Louis Tomlinson revealed:

"There will be a new album this year with a rockier and edgier tone to it."

Liam Payne added: "We've written a lot of the songs on it. It's a bit more edgy. It's grown as we've grown."

Payne meanwhile revealed that the band might try recording a song in Spanish, saying: "I think it would be quite interesting to sing a song in Spanish. Niall [Horan] can sing The Lion King in Spanish."

The boyband meanwhile will hit South America, Ireland and the UK as part of their 2014 stadium tour, with more dates due to be announced.
