VEVO: 'One Direction's record-breaking 'Best Song Ever' video actually had 12.3 million hits'

Earlier today, VEVO confirmed that One Direction had broken the 24-hour record after their new music video reached 10.9 million views in just 24 hours.

The video hosting site promised to do a 'final count' before the end of the day and a spokesperson for the company has now revealed that the actual number of hits the music video for 'Best Song Ever' had is significantly higher than originally claimed.

A tweet sent from VEVO's official account tonight (July 23) explained: "The New 24hr Record = 12.3 MILLION. Just….WOW. #Directioners ain't playin. #BSEVEVORECORD. @OneDirection views on http://VEVO.com, VEVO apps, Xbox, Roku, YouTube + added up to a WHOPPING 12.3M VIEWS in 24hrs! #BSEVEVORECORD."

Member of One Direction have also taken to their respective social networking accounts to thank fans for the overwhelming response to the offering. Niall Horan wrote: "Wow ! You guys broke the vevo 24 hour record! Wow! Thank you so much! Love you lots! #BestSongEver."

The band are also celebrating their 3-year anniversary and heartthrob Liam Payne added: "3 years already ! Wheres that time gonneee! I have loved every minute of it! Thank you for being the best fans ever I love everyone of you!"
