One Direction members Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson have revealed that on their days off they have been getting together to write new songs for the band's upcoming record.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Tomlinson explained that it's exciting to have more creative control this time around and said: "We wrote three songs on the last album but this is different. Liam and I have been spending our days off writing."

The lads' new album is highly anticipated after the success of their current offering and Scouting For Girls singer Roy Stride recently admitted that he wrote a song for the cut, but he's waiting to hear if it has been chosen for the final tracklisting.

The 'Little Things' hitmaker added that it'll be interesting to see how fans and critics alike respond to their new material as it might not be what they're expecting: "It'll be interesting to hear what people have to make of it but you'll always get criticised."
