One Direction have leapfrogged Justin Bieber in MTV's Hottest poll.

The music company are currently asking fans to tweet who they think should be crowned the king or queen of the summer.

At the time of writing, the 'Live While We're Young' superstars have now usurped Justin Bieber and are sitting at No.1 with over 36.57m votes.

Bieber meanwhile sits behind with 36.26m votes, whilst Lady Gaga languishes in third place with a mere 3.93m tweets.

Other names in the mix include Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

Voting closes on August 18 and the results will be announced on MTV Music on August 31.
