The success of One Direction has helped Simon Cowell come joint top in a list of the highest earning US TV stars.

The X Factor mogul pocketed $95 million (£61m) over the last year, according to Forbes.

Cowell made the money through his TV endeavours and also his music interests, which includes global stars One Direction.

America's Got Talent judge Howard Stern is estimated to have earned the same amount of money, whilst Glenn Beck and Oprah Winfrey are in at No.3 and No.4 on the rich list.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest meanwhile is at No.8 on the list with estimated earnings of $61m (£39m).
