One Direction's Liam Payne earns hometown honour

Liam Payne, of One Direction fame, has just been honoured with an award from his hometown of Wolverhampton and admitted that it is the best prize he has ever received.

The Sons & Daughters awards ceremony was held at Molineux in the city last night (October 10) to recognise the talent that Wolverhampton has produced and although Payne was unable to attend because he's currently in New Zealand with One Direction, he explained that it's one of the most important awards he has ever won:

"I just want to say a massive thank you for this. My band has picked up a lot of awards over the past few years, but for me this is the one that I'm definitely the most grateful for."

"Wolverhampton's my home and it always will be. I just want to say a massive thank you to the people years ago who gave me the opportunities I needed to get me where I am today and I wanted to say a massive thank you to the people who nominated me for this."

Payne then smiled into the camera and added proudly: "It's definitely the most important award and it's going to take pride on my shelf."

His parents were at the event to accept the framed prize on his behalf (pictured below) and he tweeted today: "Loved getting the wolverhampton award , sorry i couldnt be there to pick it up but by the sounds of it my mum and dad had fun ha :)"
