One Direction will let fans hear a clip of their upcoming single if they manage to trend four different topics on Twitter.

The boyband's official Twitter account teased earlier today (October 21) the prospect of new audio clips being released.

They have now revealed that fans can hear a segment of upcoming single 'Story of My Life' if they manage to trend a number of phrases on Twitter. The group said:

"SO - who wants to hear an exclusive 16 sec clip of #StoryOfMyLife?! We have a challenge for you - which we THINK you'll be good at!"

They continued: "CHALLENGE: Get the top 4 Trends to read like this...1. The 1D Family 2. Would like to hear 3. #StoryOfMyLife16secClip 4. NOW PLEASE."

'Story of My Life' is due to feature on One Direction's forthcoming third album 'Midnight Memories', which will hit shelves on November 25.
