One Direction's new single has already reached No.1 on the UK iTunes chart.

The track 'Story of My Life' was released today (October 28) as the first single from upcoming album 'Midnight Memories', which will be unleashed on November 25.

The track was unveiled on radio on Friday (October 25) but it seems fans have been snapping up the song in their droves.

It has bypassed the current official No.1 artist Lorde, who topped the singles chart on Sunday (October 27) with her smash hit 'Royals'.

One Direction meanwhile performed their previous single 'Best Song Ever' on the Australian X Factor this weekend.

The group are currently down under on the Australia and New Zealand leg of their Take Me Home tour, with dates in Japan up next.
