VEVO denies One Direction 24-hour record as fans demand recount

Earlier today (November 6), VEVO confirmed that One Direction's new music video for 'Story Of My Life' didn't beat the 24 hour record and fans have now hit out at the company, accusing it of not counting views properly.

VEVO posted a message to inform followers of the heartthrobs that Miley Cyrus retains her record of 19.3 million hits in 24 hours and One Direction simply failed to beat it:

"#SOMLonVEVO 24hr view count = 12.5 Million! Even bigger than Best Song Ever! Nice one, Directioners! @MileyCyrus holds the 24 views record with 19.3M on #WreckingBall."

Fans have been actively protesting their collective lack of faith in VEVO's final count with one Twitter user writing: "12.5m votes broke VEVO but 19m didn't... Took three days to count 12.5m views but only one day to count 19m." Another Directioner added a photograph of people's hands in the air at a festival and wrote: "#suspendVEVO Raise your hand if you hate VEVO for lying..."

Some of the boyband's fans' responses to VEVO can be seen below.
