One Direction's Zayn Malik, has had a tattoo of a gun added to his left hip on Thursday (November 21).

The twenty-year-old had the weapon etched onto his skin in Mark Mahoney's Shamrock Social Club in Los Angeles, a place the band regularly visit.

The gun is a traditional revolver and covers an enormous amount of skin on his left hand side. It's placed in a  position that looks like Malik is carrying a concealed weapon.

Louis F Perez III,  the tattooist who inked the popstar, bragged about the shocking ink-work in a caption for the picture: “Made sure my homey was strapped" on Friday morning (November 22), hours later the Instagram image was removed - not before it was shared hundreds of times between fans.

Malik's latest tattoo joins a large collection of body art work including a tattoo of his fiance, Perrie Edwards from Little Mix (see below).

He was seen walking a dog when leaving the tattoo parlour on Thursday night as he enjoyed some time off ahead of 1D Day today (November 23), a seven-hour live video stream hosted by the boyband.

One Direction Day will see the heartthrobs will host a seven-hour live broadcast 7pm – 2am (GMT) and plan to let their devoted followers into their world in a completely new way.

The broadcast will be available through both YouTube & Google+, allowing Directioners multiple platforms through which to access the exclusive content. The official press release for '1D Day' states that fans can expect "behind the scenes footage, exclusive plays of tracks from their new album 'Midnight Memories', Guinness World record attempts, and amazing special guests including Robbie Williams, Celine Dion, Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan, The Muppets and many more."
