Niall Horan to appear on currency of his hometown

One Direction star Niall Horan is to be honoured by his hometown by having his face appear on a set of banknotes.

The Irish town of Mullingar established a special edition tourism currency called Gar in 2011 which features the likenesses of famous residents and natives.

Poet and novelist James Joyce and Olympic boxing silver medallist John Joe Nevin have both previously had their faces printed on Gar notes.

The Westmeath Examiner has now reported that Niall Horan is the next star to be immortalised by Mullingar’s currency.

One Direction were recently named the winners of the MTV Stars poll.

It will be announced later today (December 22) if One Direction have managed to stay at No. 1 in the UK album chart for a third week and if ‘Midnight Memories’ will be 2013’s chart-topping Christmas LP.
