One Direction 2014 tour to rake in $1bn

One Direction's upcoming world stadium tour could take in around $1bn (£610m) next year.

The group are due to head off around the globe on their Where We Are jaunt in 2014 and its number of dates, coupled with their popularity, is expected to break records.

The boyband have a reported 88 shows booked for next year and there could be more added if needs be.

This means that the 'Kiss You' lads could break ticket records set by the likes of heavyweights U2 and The Rolling Stones.

A US spokesperson for the group commented: "Demand was so enormous for 'Where We Are' tickets that 21 American dates had to be added to the original schedule. It is absolutely conceivable that still more could be squeezed in before the end of 2014 but that will ultimately be up to the band and its management.

"Until now we hadn't even thought in terms of breaking records. But it would be amazing for 1D to climb to the very top of the tour league so early in the group's career. That would be a phenomenal testament to the loyalty and support of their fans."
