Applications now open for the Lynsey de Paul Prize 2017 for emerging female solo music creators

PRS Foundation and PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund open applications for the Lynsey de Paul Prize 2017

Third year of the prize for emerging female solo music creators in honour of Lynsey de Paul who died in 2014.

PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading funder of new music and talent development across all genres, together with PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund announce the third year of the career-developing Lynsey de Paul Prize, for emerging female solo music creators, is open for applications.

Set up in 2015 to honour the multi award winning songwriter and artist Lynsey de Paul and recognise her passion for helping young women in to the music industry, the prize awards development bursaries to talented emerging female artists. So far the initiative has supported seven artists to take the next step in their careers, including first and second year winners, Emma McGrath and Elsa Hewitt respectively.

The winner of the Lynsey de Paul Prize will receive a £2,500 development bursary and three runners up will each receive a £750 development bursary. In addition to this, both the winner and runners up will each receive £500 of mentoring support from a music industry expert.

The deadline to submit applications for the prize is Tuesday 1 August 2017 and artists must apply by submitting a video through http://www.prsformusicfoundation.com/funding/lynsey-de-paul-prize/ where further details and information on eligibility are available.

Joe Frankland, Senior Grants & Programmes Manager at PRS Foundation said, “The Lynsey de Paul Prize has unearthed a number of very talented female music creators at early stages in their careers and we’re proud to have supported seven of them so far to take their next steps – from the Dermot O’Leary favourite Emma McGrath, to the sublimely unpredictable talent of Elsa Hewitt. We really enjoy working with the PRS for Music Members’ Benevolent Fund to continue Lynsey de Paul’s great legacy and look forward to sifting through more video applications to find four more female music creators who stand out in 2017.”

John Logan, General Secretary of PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund says, “The Lynsey de Paul Prize is a fantastic initiative honouring the memory of the hugely talented Lynsey and supporting the next generation of female music creators, which was always important to her. We’re delighted to be partnering with our friends from PRS Foundation and we’re looking forward to seeing who follows the fantastic winners and runners-up from the last two years of the Prize.”

This Prize remembers Lynsey’s huge contribution to the music industry and her dedication to supporting emerging female singer-songwriters. Lynsey de Paul was a valued trustee of PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund and a longstanding PRS for Music Board Director.
