Paul McCartney to write ballet score

Former Fab Four star Paul McCartney has revealed that he's signed on to write an original ballet score.

He will be collaborating with the New York City ballet company on a new work to be unveiled to the public on September 22, 2011.

The 'Blackbird' singer-songwriter told fans the exciting news today through his official website, and wrote:

“I am always interested in new directions that I haven’t worked in before. So I became very excited about the idea. When I got back to England after meeting Peter I started writing music and am now in the very final stages of the orchestral score.”

68 year-old McCartney explains that the biggest draw for him to sign on to such a unique project was the chance to write something that would covey true emotion rather than to just pen a song on a soundtrack:

"What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”
