Sir Paul McCartney's ballet challenge

Sir Paul McCartney's debut ballet, 'Ocean's Kingdom', got its premiere in New York earlier this week and the Beatles legend revealed the challenge of writing music purely to express a visual emotion.

Speaking after the first run of the event, the 'Blackbird' icon admitted "what was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively, rather than just writing a song".

"Trying to write something that expressed an emotion was very interesting, so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that very interesting and challenging, but great. I'm really glad I accepted."

His designer daughter, Stella, created costumes for the ballet and he explained that working alongside her was a fantastic opportunity for them to combine their creativity:

"It's been great working together. It's been very special."
