Sir Paul McCartney plays free pop-up show in London

Sir Paul McCartney surprised London today (October 18) with an impromptu concert in Covent Garden.

The singer and musician played for twenty minutes as masses of fans and curious onlookers gathered around the stage, which was held on a truck.

He took to the stage at 1.30pm and played through five songs, including tracks from his latest album 'New'.

McCartney had teased the free concert on Twitter, with a total of 2,000 people forming the crowd.

Speaking during the show, the Liverpudlian said: "This is a change from the '60s because we would just have been coming in from the clubs right now."

It follows a similar stunt in the US, with the Beatle playing an impromptu gig in New York's Times Square on October 11.

The music icon's album 'New' was released in the UK on Monday (October 14).
