Paul Weller on new record: 'Sonically it’s streets ahead of anything out there'

Paul Weller believes his upcoming album sounds better than "anything" else out at the moment.

The indie icon is due to release his latest effort 'Saturn's Pattern' in April.

Speaking in the new issue of Q, Weller said that he believes the production level of the record usurps other music at the moment.

He stated: "I think it has fluidity and movement in the songs. Sonically I think it’s streets ahead of anything out there and it’s got the tunes as well.

“I can hear deep house in some tracks. I can hear jazz funk in it. Blues and R’n’B. We were going for something big-sounding."

Weller meanwhile will embark on a tour of lesser-visited places in the UK in March.

The run will hit the likes of Swindon, Stoke and Carlisle.
