Pharrell Williams: 'My fans paid for everything I own'

Pharrell Williams has shown his gratitude for his fanbase by stating that they are responsible for his success.

The US star helped create three of the most successful songs of 2013 - 'Blurred Lines', 'Get Lucky' and 'Happy' - and this has made Williams one of music's hottest properties.

Speaking to Notion magazine, the 'G I R L' star said that number ones don't mean as much as the fan loyalty that has boosted his success.

Williams said: "It's nice to be number one but that's not my doing.

"You can get so much more done by giving people respect. The people did this. Everything that I own my fans paid for."

When asked how he measures the success of his music, the singer and producer said:

"It's the way it feels to me and I stay loyal to that. I'm happy that the people can see that I'm staying loyal to that because they don't have to support me, but they do."
