Pharrell on his new album: 'I feel comfortable with it because it's not about me'

'Happy' superstar Pharrell Williams has revealed that he felt really comfortable making his latest album, 'G I R L', because it wasn't about him so he could really get into it without being wary of how much he was giving away.

He explained to Notion magazine that while it's still personal, it's not centred around himself so he could really let loose with it as he's a very private person: "What's made me feel comfortable about making an album is because it's not about me. It's about girl. I feel comfortable singing it and making it and performing it."

He went onto add that because he's both an artist and producer, he often finds himself overthinking things so has to try hard to just go with his gut: "I used to always overthink it because I'm trying to produce myself. I'm having to draw from myself, which is so weird, so I'd always overshoot."

During the same interview, as previously reported, he confessed that No.1 singles and albums are great, but what he's really looking for is respect from his fans: "It's nice to be number one but that's not my doing. You can get so much more done by giving people respect. The people did this. Everything that I own my fans paid for."
