Pharrell Williams says 'Blurred Lines' was inspired by Miley Cyrus

Pharrell Williams has stated that 'Blurred Lines' was more inspired by Miley Cyrus than Marvin Gaye.

The musician collaborated with Robin Thicke on his 2013 smash hit track.

However, those behind the tune - including the musicians - are currently embroiled in a legal case surrounding alleged plagiarism.

Marvin Gaye's family say 'Blurred Lines' is too similar to the late star's 1977 song 'Got To Give It Up'.

Speaking during the ongoing case, producer Williams denied copying Gaye and said that studio work with Cyrus influenced the tune's sound:

"I had Earl Sweatshirt in one room and Miley Cyrus in the other...I was doing a bunch of country-sounding music with Miley.

"[The creative process behind 'Blurred Lines'] was like blending this country sound with this up-tempo groove."

Williams added that the tune does echo Gaye's song, but denies plagiarism.

He said: "I must have been channelling that feeling, that late 70s feeling.

"Sometimes when you look back on your past work, you see echoes of people. But that doesn't mean that's what you were doing."
