'The Anthem' superstar Pitbull has decided to give back to his hometown by building a free school that will give youngsters the opportunity to have a great education for no cost.

Pitbull grew up in an impoverished part of Miami, Florida and explained to the Today show that he wanted to help out where he could so began building a school.

It's called the called the Sports Leadership Academy of Miami (SLAM) and will be ideal for students looking to pursue athletic careers. He took a camera crew to the construction site today (February 22) and showed off the progress:

"What we wanted to do is give back to the community, but at the same time let them know that I'm from the same spot and I'm going through the same troubles."

He added that his connection to the area is a strong one, so it's emotional for him to be in a position to provide such a fantastic service:

"In no way, shape or form me being born and raised and growing up in Miami would (I) ever imagine me standing on (the foundation of) a school, that we're a part of. So to be up here for me is very emotional."
