Prides Q&A: 'Our ultimate goal is to be a massive stadium pop band'

It's pretty unusual for a band to play a stadium with only a few tracks to their name, but it's fair to say Prides took it all in their stride.

The Glasgow synth-pop act performed at their home city's Hampden Park recently for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony alongside Kylie Minogue and big things are expected of the trio.

Pressparty caught up with the band's guitarist, keyboard player and vocalist Callum Wiseman for a quick chat to find out more.

How would you describe the sound of Prides?

Hopefully it's quite uplifting anthemic pop, I guess. We're not really pulling any punches with it.

A lot of people might shy away from the pop tag, but you seem to embrace it?

We like all kinds of music. In terms of pop, we love Katy Perry. But we like all sorts. Stewart [Brock] likes 80s pop and Lewis [Gardner] likes…everything.

You're due to embark on a headline UK tour soon - what should fans expect from your show?

Hopefully we'll be bringing some lights into it. We're looking into getting a bigger light show and a bit more production.

You played at Glasgow's Hampden Park recently for the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, but can you see yourself playing anymore stadiums in the future?

Hopefully, yeah. People say all the time that we're designed for stadiums, and hopefully that's what we're aiming for. Me and Stewart were at T in the Park a couple of years ago and The Killers were playing and I had never seen them before but I watched them and was like…'Yeah'. All of their songs were made for a main stage at a festival and we thought 'Let's do that'. We've got the tribal drums and sing-a-long vocals and stuff. Hopefully we'll do a lot more stadiums in the future.

Are you working on your debut album at the moment?

Yeah, we're tentatively finished. It won't be out 'til next year though.

You're signed to Island - have you got a pretty good relationship with them?

It seems like we've got a good relationship with everybody that we're working with just now. I think that's why it's going so well. Every part of the machine is doing its own thing but working towards the same goal.

So what is the ultimate goal?

To be a massive stadium pop band.
