Queen become first act to sell 6 million copies of the same album in the UK

Iconic rock band Queen have become the first ever act to reach 6 million UK sales of an album, the Official Charts Company has confirmed.

Their 1981 'Greatest Hits' album is Britain’s best-selling record of all time and guitarist Brian May explained that passing the 6 million sales mark for just one album is incredible:

"Great news, AMAZING news from the Official Charts Company! Queen’s Greatest Hits which was released in 1981 has passed the 6 million mark in sales, which is incredible. I just want to say thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years, we hope to continue to serve you."

Member Roger Taylor added: "Wonderful. Who would have thought it! And all due to the Great British public. Thank you. A great honour!"

Queen's 'Greatest Hits' is currently around 900,000 copies ahead of its closest competitor, which is ABBA's 'Gold - Greatest Hits' with sales of 5.1 million. The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band' is now in third place, also with 5.1 million copies sold, and Adele's '21' is fourth with total sales of 4.7 million
