Queen praise Adam Lambert: 'He's a true diva - Freddie would have loved him'

The remaining members of iconic rock band Queen have once again recruited vocal powerhouse Adam Lambert to front them on a new tour and drummer Roger Taylor has admitted that he was the perfect choice for the position.

Speaking to Germany's Bluewin, Taylor explained that the 'Trespassing' hitmaker has the right kind of energy and charisma to fill the shoes of a frontman as legendary as the late Freddie Mercury without impersonating or attempting to imitate him:

"When Brian and I give concerts as Queen, we don't want anyone to imitate Freddie – because no one can replace him for us. Adam Lambert is an independent artist. It fits us perfectly, because he is so theatrical, a true diva. Freddie would love him."

Lambert added: "He's a big idol for me and I thought to myself, you know, I hope that the fans dig this. And it felt really good. The reception was warm. The reaction to it the first time was very warm. It's a treat for me to get on stage and pay my respects and to pay tribute to one of my favourite singers ever.”

The U.S. leg of Adam Lambert and Queen's tour is due to kick off on June 19 at the United Center in Chicago.
