Queen's Brian May on Adam Lambert: 'If he was a sh*t this wouldn't have happened'

Queen star Brian May says Adam Lambert's personality was the clinching factor in the singer teaming up with the band.

The group have periodically performed with the US star over the last couple years, with a North America tour taking place earlier this summer.

The veterans and Lambert will carry this show onto Europe next year and speaking to Classic Rock Magazine's radio show, guitarist May said that it all would never have happened if Lambert didn't fit with the group.

He said: "We just thought, ‘My God, this guy can do it’. The final piece of the puzzle is that he’s a nice guy. If he was a sh*t it wouldn’t be fun and it wouldn’t have happened.

“He’s a good guy; he’s fun, he’s entertaining, he’s open to ideas and he brings lots of ideas in. When we were putting this setlist together he didn’t just go, ‘I’ll do what you want’ – he said, ‘Look, how about we try this?’ So we had a proper birth process for the material of this tour. I just feel very grateful that we’re out there and can do it."

Queen and Adam Lambert meanwhile won the Band of the Year gong at the Classic Rock Awards on Tuesday (November 4).
