Queen believe Freddie Mercury would have been a fan of Adam Lambert.

The iconic singer fronted the group until he died in 1991.

The band are currently performing with US star Lambert and drummer Roger Taylor told the Sunday Telegraph that their former vocalist would have given him the thumbs up.

Taylor said: "I think he [Freddie] would have approved. And I know he would have liked Adam."

Guitarist Brian May added: "Freddie and Adam have a very similar attitude to life; a sense of humour and camp lightness of touch. Queen have a serious side but, really, that little bit of humour is what keeps everybody sane."

Queen and Adam Lambert meanwhile will open their forthcoming UK tour in Newcastle on Tuesday (January 13).
