Brian May denies Sacha Baron Cohen's Freddie Mercury biopic claims

Brian May says Sacha Baron Cohen has been telling "untruths" about his role in a mooted Freddie Mercury biopic.

The Borat actor had been lined up to play the role of the late singer in the film, but he recently pulled out.

Baron Cohen said Queen wanted to "protect their legacy" rather than take part in a "warts and all" movie.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, guitarist May denied the claims and said the comedian wasn't right for the role.

He said: "Sacha became an arse. We had some nice times with Sacha kicking around ideas but he went off and told untruths about what happened.

"Why would he go away and say that we didn't want to make a gritty film? Are we the kind of people who have ever ducked from the truth? I don't think so.

"We decided he wasn't right for the role, which will become apparent if you watch what he's done recently. It's obvious it wasn't going to work, him playing Freddie. It wouldn't suspend your disbelief."
