Queen would like Ben Wishaw to play Freddie Mercury

Queen's stick man, Roger Taylor, has told BBC 1's The One Show on Friday (October 18) that the band would like Ben Wishaw to play Freddie Mercury in the proposed biopic.

Taylor spoke to Chris Evans and Alex Jones, the show's presenters, about how the band are hoping Wishaw will play the lead role now that Sacha Baron Cohen has left the project.

Cohen left this summer after disagreeing with the band over how the late Mercury should be portrayed in the film. Taylor hinted that Cohen wanted to make Mercury into a comic figure which was not welcomed by the remaining Queen members.

Taylor initially just gave the initials of their intended actor, 'BW', but when Jones suggested Whishaw's name, Taylor replied: "Well, we hope so."

Wishaw is famous for playing MI6's 'Q' in the James Bond movie, 'Skyfall', and has starred alongside Judi Dench in the London's West End earlier this year in 'Peter And Alice', a play based on the life of Lewis Caroll's muse for 'Alice In Wonderland'.

Wishaw is returning to the London stage next month. He is set to star in 'Mojo' alongside Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint, at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
