Jump-jive enthusiast, Angie A, releases the catchy and pertinent ‘Essex Girl (Professional)’Angie A’s fun and dance-inducing new track aims to empower women everywhereLondon based rhythm and blues artist, Angie A, has recorded her reality television inspired, jump-jive track, ‘Essex Girl (Professional)’. Angie is looking to bring an older style of music into the 21st Century, combining a distinct twelve bar blues sample from the Fleecy Moore song, ‘Caldonia’, with contemporary lyrics and original inspiration. Nor is Angie one to shy away from the media; she has already appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, receiving compliments on her vocal talents from Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan, and has recently gained media coverage in the Essex area after showing her support for the #IamanEssexgirl campaign for the dictionary definition of the term to be removed. ‘Essex Girl (Professional)’, as Angie states herself, is partly inspired by the hit television series, The Only Way Is Essex and its star, Gemma Collins. Citing the show as her guilty pleasure, Angie says that she wrote the song to ‘put a smile on my face and I hope it will do the same for others!’. The opening line of the song is also a quote from the TOWIE star: ‘I may not be a size ten, but I ain’t half got a good heart...’. Despite this, the song also draws relevance from the empowering story of female workers at the Dagenham Ford motor factory in the 60s, where women went on strike over gender pay issues. Consequently, Angie labels ‘Essex Girl (Professional)’ as a song with female concerns at the heart of it: ‘It’s an uplifting song for women and at the same time, jump-jive dancers can do their thing on the dancefloor.’ Also a singing teacher in her spare time, Angie’s pin-point vocals have a classic, rich tone comparable to the likes of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Band, Nina Simone and even Ella Fitzgerald. In fact, it is one of Angie’s aspirations to appear on the Later...With Jools Holland show hence why she has adopted the hashtag, #RoadToJools. Angie regularly sings swing and jump-jive songs with one of her bands and she originally penned the song as an unofficial Comic Relief anthem. She raised money within her community to fund the recording of the song (plus over £300 for Comic Relief) and with every purchase of the single, 5p will be donated to her chosen charities, The Prince’s trust, The Trussell Trust and Help Musicians UK. ‘Essex Girl (Professional)’ is set to be released November 25th.
