After surviving a near death experience, Mike Maro uses Drake’s beat to redefine culture

Nigerian born and raised rapper Mike Maro uses Drake’s beat to rap his own style, exploring heart break and the loss of his dad in ‘The Catch Up’. Exposing his deepest insecurities through his original flow, Mike Maro shot the live performance of the track in Residence Studios, North London. Heavily influenced by American hip-hop, gospel and RnB, the rapper’s unpredictable creative style has an entirely unique raw gritty feel.

From the age of 11 Mike was writing lyrics, forming a boy band that performed at local events. Although they mostly composed gospel songs, the rapper still used this to influence his sound, using a soulful sound alongside thought provoking lyrics. He knew he was destined for greatness after surviving a 2+ cerebral malaria whilst having an appendicitis, forcing him into a 3 day coma. He now aims to redefine culture and influence attitudes with his music, taking inspiration from the likes of 2pac who discussed matters such as women’s rights.

The story teller has a very strategic way of delivering messages, drawing influences from the world around him. Mike Maro has a unique style, drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson so wearing leather gloves when performing. He is set to release the live performance of ‘The Catch Up’ March 2nd.
