Music avatar and comic heroine, Psyrena, is bringing her transcendental and four-dimensional mode of electronic pop to the masses.  Accompanied by her furry friend, spirit animal, and keyboard wizard, Mr. Bear, the pair are releasing their other-worldly debut single ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’.

Self-labelling her style as ‘bipolar-electronica’, an eclectic mix that draws on everything from fairy-girl baroque-pop to avant-garde electronic, Psyrena’s music is both dark and illuminating, helping listeners to escape from the turmoil of the world we live in, to a far more idyllic world where she spends most of her time.

Within the music and their adventures in the comics, Psyrena and Mr. Bear embrace the disenfranchised, exploring pertinent and pressing humanitarian issues of modern society such as queer, transgender and female sexuality, womanhood, escapism, hate crimes and discrimination of those who are perceived as ‘other’.

With lyrics such as ‘We’ll colour rainbows in the night, we’ll bring the unicorns to life’, Psyrena’s music is a world away from your typical mainstream music, employing hints of dance, retro-electronica and alternative pop hooks.  However, whilst ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’ may seem ‘overly-cute’ at times, the song is in fact a multi-faceted creature; its lyrics offering a sense of ambivalence, also addressing the serious topic of human rights.

Within the weird and wonderful comic-animated video for ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’, we see Psyrena and Mr. Bear riding a psychedelic rollercoaster through a sky full of surrealism and subtle, yet clever messaging. The breakdown of the track then moves on to show Psyrena floating through a golden wheat field on a gondola, propelled by Mr. Bear – it’s ground that music videos are yet to cover.

The infectious pop anthem and call for compassion, ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’, is set for release on July 7th.
