Red Hot Chili Peppers star Chad Smith has challenged Will Ferrell to a drum battle.

It is often noted that the drummer looks like the Anchorman actor and they have both made Instagram videos recently about their lookalike nature.

Ferrell ignited the debate recently by uploading a clip of himself thanking fans for their participation in a Reddit chat before joking that he is actually Smith.

The drummer then replied via video to say: "Stop impersonating me. In fact, I need you. Drum battle, me and you. I've seen your skills, you don't have them. Let's go. Golden cowbell, winner. Boom."

Smith meanwhile recently performed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Super Bowl event on February 2.

However, bassist Flea later confirmed that the group were forced to mime and play to a pre-recorded track, with only the lead vocals live.
