Rihanna leads nominations for iHeartRadio Music Awards

Rihanna has bagged a number of nominations for the first iHeartRadio Music Awards.

The radio station are due to host their inaugural awards ceremony at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium later this year and it will air on NBC on May 1.

Rihanna has pocketed five nominations, with the singer nominated in categories such as Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

She is also up for the Best Collaboration, Hip Hop/R&B Song of the Year and Best Fan Army prizes.

Other nominated acts include Justin Timberlake, who is up for the same awards as Rihanna except for the Fan Army gong.

The two acts will face off against Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in the Artist of the Year section.

Worldwide superstars One Direction are absent in all the categories, with the other Fan Army nominations going to Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Austin Mahone and Taylor Swift.

The nominations were collated from the iHeartRadioChart, which takes into account radio play, digital sales, streaming data and feedback.
