To mark International Women’s Day (March 8) Spotify have revealed the most popular female music artists of all time according to their streaming data.

Rihanna topped the list ahead of the likes of Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Lana Del Rey.

The top ten ranking is dominated by American artists, which also includes Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, but Ellie Goulding is the only British star to make it into the list, and New Zealander Lorde completes the set at No. 10.

Despite removing her music catalogue from Spotify late last year, Taylor Swift has still made it into the chart at No. 9.
