Rihanna equals Madonna's U.S. chart record

'Umbrella' icon Rihanna has managed to match a record held in the USA by the Queen of Pop after claiming her 12th No.1 single with 'Diamonds'.

The song hit the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and has now brought Rihanna face to face with Madonna who has also scored an impressive 12 No.1 singles in the U.S. throughout her career.

This achievement puts her in joint fourth position for the most chart-toppers in US Hot 100 history.

The Beatles remain untouched in their stardom with a whopping 20 chart-topping American singles and Mariah Carey is in second place with 18. The late Michael Jackson is close behind with 13.

The Bajan beauty's new record, 'Unapologetic', went straight in at No.1 on the UK albums chart yesterday (November 21) during the midweek update.
