Rihanna donates £1.1m to Barbados hospital

Rihanna has pledged a massive $1.75 million (£1.1 million) to a hospital in Bardabos in tribute to her late grandmother.

The singer's gran Dolly died earlier this year and Rihanna has decided to donate the massive sum of money to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown in memory of her.

The 'Diamonds' star visited the hospital on Saturday (December 22) and her kind donation has helped buy new equipment.

In a statement, Rihanna said: "This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program...I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them."

The radiotherapy department at the hosital has now been renamed the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine in honour of Dolly.
