Rita Ora: 'I had to grow up really quickly'

Songstress Rita Ora has confessed that moving to America by herself as a teenager taught her a lot about being independent and forced her to grow up quickly.

During a new interview with the British edition of Elle magazine, the star explained that as an 18-year-old she moved to Brooklyn, New York after being noticed by Jay-Z and recorded her album while living there alone:

"I moved to a flat, Skyped my mum and dad every night, was recording my first album - literally studio and back home."

"It was really scary. [Not amazing-scary], scary-scary - I had no idea what the f**k I was doing. I couldn't even cook, let alone wash my own clothes. I had to grow up really quick."

She also added that she didn't know what she was doing when she made her first album and feels much more comfortable now: "I didn't know what the f**k I was doing on my first album, let's be honest. I was a kid having the time of my life. And I made a party album – party and bulls**t. This time, I'm still having a great time, but I'm in a great, loving place. Now I want people to see you can have fun and be in love at the same time."
