Robin Thicke wanted upbeat album after making "depressing bulls***"

Robin Thicke has admitted that some of his previous material was "depressing".

The US star has released five albums so far but it is since his 2013 hit single 'Blurred Lines' that the singer has achieved true international fame.

He has released his new record of the same name in Europe and speaking to the Daily Star, Thicke said that he wanted to make a dance-orientated album following years of "bulls***". The suave star said:

"I always wanted to be respected as an artist. As I got older, I didn't want to hear my own depressing bulls**t any more, I just wanted to hear some fun music I could dance with my wife to."

Speaking meanwhile about co-writer will.i.am, Thicke added: "will is a super-crazy genius. He's one of those Michael Jackson-type people who wants everyone to love the song. will thinks about coming up with a song or chorus that everybody can sing along with and dance to. He's like, 'We're going to make the biggest album in the world.' It was good for me to be around that."
