Sam Smith: 'I can't believe the size of the crowds I perform to'

'Lay Me Down' singer Sam Smith has revealed that going from playing decent sized music venues to taking the stage at massive world famous outdoor festivals has been an incredible experience and he has thoroughly enjoyed this summer.

Speaking to MTV News about his summer schedule of playing festivals, the 'Stay With Me' sensation admitted it was overwhelming to suddenly find himself performing to thousands upon thousands of people:

"The size of the crowds is the thing for me this year which has just been incredible. You know it's such a free for all you don't know who's going to come you don't know how many people are going to come. At the moment I've been playing 3000 cap venues, so having played to 50,000 people today, it's crazy."

The star will head to the USA next month in September for a full headlining tour and it's due to kick off on September 15 in Boston at the House of Blues, which has already sold out.
