Sam Smith reveals who gave him the best career advice

'Stay With Me' superstar Sam Smith has revealed that modern pop icon Lady Gaga has given him the best career advice so far.

Speaking to On Air with Ryan Seacrest for KIIS-FM, the hitmaker explained that people have been great with offering words of support and wisdom, and admitted that the 'Applause' sensation really inspired him with what she said:

"I would say the best advice I’ve been given so far was from Lady Gaga, who said to me, ‘Just be yourself'."

Back in September, Smith told Boston's 103.3 AMP Radio that he sent Gaga an email about how she influenced him and confessed that she was so touched by the message that she cried:

"I wrote her an email basically just saying, 'I remember being a 17-year-old, queuing up for your concert, dreaming up doing this, and being in the music industry'. And the thing I admire the most about Lady Gaga was the hustle and what she did to get into the industry. And I just ran with it saying, 'Thank you for inspiring me to do this because the reason why I'm here now is partly because of you'."
