Sam Smith on songwriting inspiration: 'I can always find reasons to be sad in life'

'Stay With Me' singer Sam Smith has revealed that he really likes writing emotional songs because there's something very honest about laying your feelings out in that way.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper in Great Britain, the hitmaker explained that penning 'truthful' tracks is really important to him: "Honest songs make the best songs in my opinion. Whether they're sad or happy, they've just got to be truthful and relatable."

"I can always find reasons to be sad in life. So I'll have plenty to inspire the next album. I've been dating and stuff, which is great so I'll definitely be talking about that on my new material."

He went onto add that becoming famous hasn't impacted his love life at all and he doesn't have fans throwing themselves at him, despite reports that often suggest otherwise: "I haven't met 'the one' yet. And no, I don't have fans propositioning me ever. But I wish I did. That would make things a lot easier. I'm afraid that just hasn't happened."
