Sam Smith loses voice ahead of GRAMMYs performance

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has lost his voice ahead of his upcoming performance at this weekend's GRAMMY Awards, where he is also nominated for an impressive 6 prizes

The event is due to take place on Sunday, February 8, but the 'Stay With Me' sensation axed his concert in Seattle yesterday in order to try and recover in time. In a post shared to his official Facebook page last night (February 2), he explained:

"Seattle, I'm so sad and upset to announce I've had to reschedule tonight's show. It is my second to last show for this tour and my voice has given in. We are rescheduling the show asap. I'm so sorry to anyone who has travelled to Seattle from far away and to all of you. I promise to make it up to you the minute my voice is back."

Smith is up for Best Pop Vocal Album for his 'In The Lonely Hour', Best Pop Solo Performance, Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. Speaking to MTV News about the nominations recently, he said:

"It’s pretty amazing. I just can’t believe I’ve got as many nominations as Beyoncé. For me the GRAMMYs is when they say your song is good or your album is good, it means that they’re saying it’s a timeless piece of work, which is what I’m trying to do and what I tried to do with my record. It’s crazy.”
