Sam Smith: 'I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith won a total of 4 GRAMMYs last night (February 8) and he opened up about the pressures of fame in one of his acceptance speeches.

The star told the audience and stars in attendance that he felt pushed to lose weight, but found that the stress he was putting on himself was taking a toll on his creativity so, instead, he just decided to embrace who he truly is and be himself:

"Before I made this record, I was doing everything to try to get my music heard. I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was when I started to be myself that the music flowed."

He also referenced the unrequited love that inspired his debut record and thanked the man in question for breaking his heart because he now has a collection of awards to make up for it: "I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys."
