Sam Smith on GRAMMYs success: 'It's beautiful because I didn't play a character on my album'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has revealed that his GRAMMY wins mean that much more to him because the songs that make up his debut album were inspired by real things that he experienced.

Speaking to press on the red carpet at last night's GRAMMY Awards, where he won 4 prizes, the hitmaker explained that he's proud to have won the accolades off the back of his true life story:

"What's beautiful about this record ('In The Lonely Hour') to me is I didn't play a character. It was just me being me. I was living my life and just spoke about it through music, and I'm going to do the same again."

Smith went onto add that the man who inspired the songs on 'In The Lonely Hour' will see him once he returns to England, so he will thank him personally for breaking his heart: "I'll be seeing him soon. So I can let him touch the Grammy — once."
