Sam Smith says success of debut album means follow-up won't be rushed

Sam Smith says he isn't being pressured into releasing a second album.

The singer unleashed his debut record 'In The Lonely Hour' in 2014 and it became a smash hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

Speaking to the Observer, Smith said that the success of the record has eased the pressure on him to create a follow-up.

The 'Stay With Me' star said: "If my first hadn't done very well I would have to be bringing out another towards the end of this year.

"My team would be panicking, getting me in sessions. But I'm in this beautiful situation. There is no schedule."

Smith added, however, that the success of 'In The Lonely Hour' has been tough in terms of workload:

"I've spent as much energy this past year trying not to go mental as I have plugging my record. You have to. It's like your body's trying to float away from you. And you're hanging on for dear life."
