One Direction win British Artist Video and Sam Smith wins second BRIT Award of the night

One Direction and Sam Smith are the BRIT Awards' latest winners.

The British Breakthrough Act was presented by Charli XCX and BBC Radio 1’s Fearne Cotton. The coveted title went to Sam Smith, making it his second prize of the night. George Ezra, CHVRCHES, Royal Blood, FKA Twigs and Sam Smith were also up for the award.

In his acceptance speech, the 'Money On My Mind' sensation admitted that he didn't expect to be so successful at tonight's ceremony: "Oh my lord. Wow, thank you so much. I really didn't expect this. I want to thank my amazing team, my amazing publicist and my managers."

The British Artist Video was won by One Direction, who are currently on tour, for 'You and I'. Music mogul Simon Cowell accepted the gong, which is their fifth, on their behalf and said: 'This is so exciting! The boys are in Japan and made up a speech in case they did win. They want to thank their fans for voting and Ben Winston for making the video. I want to also say thank you to the boys for being amazing."

The other nominees include Calvin Harris - 'Summer' Ed Sheeran, 'Thinking Out Loud' Mark Ronson Ft. Bruno Mars - 'Uptown Funk', One Direction - 'You And I', and Sam Smith - 'Stay With Me'.
