Sam Smith on Madonna's BRITs fall: 'I'd have cried and crawled off stage'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has weighed in on Madonna's now famous fall at the 2015 BRIT Awards and confessed that he wouldn't have been as brave as her if he had taken a tumble from the stage.

Speaking to Stylist magazine about the Queen of Pop's accident at the awards ceremony, he admitted that it takes a lot of confidence and professionalism to just get up and carry on as if nothing happened:

"I used to fall up the escalator on the tube all the time. I'd do what every guy does and look back as if there's something wrong with the ground. I like to think if I'd been like Madonna and fallen at the BRITs I'd have powered through, but chances are I'd have cried and crawled off stage."

Smith, meanwhile, won 2 prizes at the 2015 BRIT Awards and added that he managed to avoid a monster hangover from partying by eating cheese: "[I got over my Brits hangover] by eating cheese! The BRITs was amazing but I feel like I've celebrated enough now. Since the GRAMMYs I've had a couple of weeks flapping about not actually writing any music, it's time to get back into work mode."
