Sam Smith: 'I'm inspired by Amy Winehouse'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has revealed that he is a huge fan of Amy Winehouse and thinks that she is an icon.

During an interview with Q magazine, the superstar explained that he is heavily inspired by the music of the late Amy Winehouse and really values her record 'Frank':

"Without a question the album that changed my life would have to be Amy Winehouse's debut album, 'Frank'. I can still remember hearing it in my dad's car when I was 11 on the way to school. I think he bought it because he read a good review in Q magazine, funnily enough."

The 'Stay With Me' sensation went onto add that the album changed his life and perspective on music, and he wishes he could have met her: "It totally blew me away. It was so honest emotionally. It reminds me that I need to try and be that honest in my own song writing. I never got to meet her, but she'll always be an icon."
